Happy Monday, QAV America.
And welcome to all of our new members.
Market This Week (S&P 500)
The S&P 500 notched a winning week, closing Friday at 7,711.76, up roughly 0.5% from the prior week’s close of 7,674.37:
- Fed Chair Kevin Warsh used his Jackson Hole speech to state that underlying inflation is not slowing and vowed to fight price growth until it hits the 2% target, signaling that the labor market is consistent with full employment and driving traders to price in a possible rate hike next month.
- Nvidia reported fiscal Q2 2027 earnings after the close on August 26, posting EPS of $2.22 and revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year. The stock closed up 8.74% to $227.98 the following day as investors bought on blowout results and revenue guidance that eased fears of an AI slowdown.
- Consumer confidence fell to a seven-month low of 89.4 in August, according to the Conference Board, declining 0.8% from the prior month and missing the consensus estimate of 90.2.
- Canada announced retaliatory tariffs on roughly $20 billion in US goods, set to take effect September 8, targeting steel, aluminum, dairy, seafood and more, after the US imposed additional 50% tariffs on Canadian motor vehicles, alcohol and dairy.
- With Q2 earnings season essentially finished, 485 S&P 500 companies have reported, with 69% beating on the top line and 88% beating on the bottom line.
All the best,
Cameron

And here’s my TikTok of the week.
@qavinvesting Crescent Energy (NYSE:CRGY) has an interesting control structure. Investment bank KKR owns 1000 shares which allows them to select the Board, the executives, and determine the strategy. The strategy involves buying companies by issuing stock. And... KKR gets paid every time the company issues new stock. Which dilutes shareholders. But does that make it a bad investment? Tell me what you think. CRGY valueinvesting KKR

FOR NEW MEMBERS
If you’re new to QAV Light, here’s a quick reminder on how it works.
- We send you an email every Monday advising which stocks we are adding to our Light portfolio.
- You can copy our trades, but please remember to review our Trading Guidelines to understand which cap you should be looking at and other important considerations. And consult a financial planner before making any decisions.
- We don’t recommend that you add stocks which are already in our portfolio. Their position on our buy list might have changed since we recommended them. Just start with the stocks recommended after you become a member.
- If one of the stocks we add breaches one of our sell conditions, we will sell it from our portfolio and you’ll get an email advising of the trade. Again, you can copy our trades, but seek financial advice before making any decisions. And please check your Rule #1 price (see Trading Guidelines).
- If you come across any QAV terminology that you don’t understand (eg Rule 1, 3PTL, Possibles, etc), please review our terminology guide or just email us for clarification.
That’s it for today!
If we decide to buy or sell something, we’ll let you know.
