Market This Week (S&P 500)

• The S&P 500 finished up 1.3% from last Friday, closing at 7,575.39, and now sits just 0.5% below its record close reached on June 2, 2026. The Dow, by contrast, fell 0.5% on the week.
• The Fed held the federal funds rate steady at 3.50% to 3.75% for a fourth consecutive meeting in June, and this week Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, speaking at the ECB Forum in Sintra, said inflation risks have eased in recent weeks while stressing the Fed remains committed to its 2% target and that delivering price stability is its primary objective.
• The US economy added only 57,000 jobs in June, significantly missing Wall Street forecasts of 115,000, which sharply reduced the probability of a rate hike at the July 28-29 FOMC meeting. Meanwhile, May’s Consumer Price Index rose 4.2% year over year, keeping inflation well above the Fed’s 2% target.
• Meta Platforms was the standout stock of the week, jumping about 6% on Friday to close out a nearly 15% weekly gain, its best weekly performance since early 2024, after Bank of America maintained its buy rating and a Reuters-reviewed internal memo suggested Meta may be improving its AI cost structure.
• The Procure Space ETF was on track for its fifth negative week in six, pulling back more than 7% week to date, with holdings including Rocket Lab, York Space, ViaSat, Intuitive Machines, and Honeywell Aerospace each shedding 10% or more, as investors continued to digest the effects of SpaceX’s IPO on the sector.
• South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix made its US debut on Friday, opening at $170 on the Nasdaq after its American depositary receipts were priced at $149 each. Some traders expressed concern the new offering may compete for investor funds with US memory stocks like Micron Technology.
